Ad Management Systems

Ad Management Systems

If you have many ads on a website, it may be difficult to manage all the ad networks in an efficient way.  Also, it may not be the best thing to reserve a specific ad space to only one ad network.  A better course of action would be to allow for a competitive process so that the ads that will earn the most revenue will show.  This is how you maximize your profits through smart management.

So far, there are few sites on the Web that allow webmasters to do exactly what was just explained above:

  • PubMatic
  • Google's Ad Manager
  • AdBrite

PubMatic

PubMatic is still in beta version, but allows webmasters to maximize their earnings by showing the ads that will bring in the most revenue.  They have to that effect been able to reach agreements with many major ad networks and have streamlined the integration process with those networks.

Webmasters can add a network to their code by the click of a button and paste that code on their site.  Once the code is added, that space will show the ad that brings in the most revenue, therefore maximizing the webmaster's profits.  This service is totally free for now.

One problem with the service offered by PubMatic is that the process through which they maximize an ad space revenues does not work all the time.  In other words, PubMatic does not serve the highest-paying ads necessarily and some webmasters have complained about this.  That being said, their service is still useful because it allows webmasters to have integrated reporting and to use only one ad code as opposed to many (since their service integrates all the ad codes into one).

Google's Ad Manager

Google's Ad Manager is in direct competition with PubMatic and there's little doubt who will win the war.  At this stage (March 15, 2008), the Ad Manager is still in its early stages and only accepts a few sites.  One interesting feature about the Ad Manager is that it claims to allow webmasters to sell their own ads directly.  If that is true, it would be great.  Other features about the Ad Manager is that it is free and claims to have good speed and reliability.
