Paid Reviews

With the recent surge in the popularity of blogging, many sites have established themselves as intermediaries between bloggers and webmasters looking to promote their sites.

The following sites act as intermediaries for paid reviews:

Some Tips for Effective Paid Reviews

Paid reviews are more than simply paying someone to review your site.  Sure, you can always do that, but you may be disappointed.  In order to prevent that from happening, keep the following in mind:

  • Before ordering a review, see prior reviews from the site or blog.  That will give you an idea of what to expect.  Some reviewers can be pretty blunt and if they don't like your site, service, or product, they may just blast you.  The worst is that you will still have to pay them!
  • Order reviews from credible sources.  That will help you gain exposure and credibility.  As you get positive reviews, you can quote some of them on your site to enhance your site's authority.
  • See if it's possible to give some guidelines to the reviewer.  For instance, you may want to give background information to the reviewer to facilitate his/ her work as opposed to letting him/ her learn about your site, service, or product on his/ her own.  By doing that, you will be able to draw the reviewer's attention to points you would like to standout.
  • Try to negotiate some back links with your review and see if you can specify keywords for the reviewer to use when he/ she links back to your site.
  • Provide some images if possible.  That will make the review more interesting and more concrete.

Google Cracking Down on Paid Reviews

Pay Per Post (PPP) has been severely penalized by Google.  Blogs that subscribed to PPP have seen their PR down to zero (November 2007).  They (the PPP team) are not giving up however and don't discount them yet.
